In 2008 we decided to hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. This was a 3 1/2-day trek for us with the second day being the most grueling as it required us to climb to Dead Woman's Pass, which resembles a woman on her back, at 4,215 m (13,829 ft) above sea level, and is the highest point on the trail. We celebrated as we crested the pass, but only long enough to get some photos of the the group of people that were in our group, and then it was back on the trail again. In addition to this photo of where we had come that morning, I made an image of what lie ahead of us that afternoon (you can barely see the trail down into the valley and then back up the mountain in the distance).
